\2In an article published in Oepir Risti issue five, Tobias "Electron" Jansson (as he prefers to be called) tells us that he thinks handles are ridiculous and childish. He also explains that non-scene related persons can (and will) get rather confused if confronted with a jungle of "ridiculous" names, which seems to make no sense or contain any real meaning. But isn't that the meaning of using handles today? Isn't handles a way of separating normal life from scene life?
The minute I sit down behind my desk and turn on the power to my Amiga, I am not the usual boring me, I am Origo. The meaning of my handle can be discussed of course (let's do that sometime, Tobias!) among a lot of other "silly" or perhaps misleading handles. The meaning of a handle cannot always be taken seriously, I do admit that using a handle that alludes upon terror or violence is still really silly to use, but among all the sceners I know I have not seen anyone taking his/her handle straight out of the air. Handles are, as Tobias also says, often related to that specific person's interests, pets, hobbies or real name. I would hereby also want to tell all of you out there that believe you are more cool or tough, just by using repellent names, stop living in a dream and get real, get a good handle instead of being "cool". Of course the usage of real names is also acceptable, just like handles, it's up to each and every individual to decide if he/she wants to use his/her real name or a handle.
